About the Director
Gwendolyn Shivers
My personal/professional experiences directly align with the Early Childhood Committee’s vision to provide opportunity to access and engage high quality early childhood services and resources to children and their families through my passion for early learning.
Where it all began
It started when I agreed to help a group of mothers seeking to obtain their GED at Hubert Elementary School who were not able to attend without proper care for their children during the hours of 8 AM to 12 PM, Monday through Friday. I provided free childcare for 2 years for nine (9) children between the ages 0 – 4 years old. I realized there was a great need for care and service. I was assisted with pre-school, by the school's principal, Ms. Baker, who provided me with supplies to help me get started. I am now the founder, President, and Director of Gwen’s Heaven’s Angel’s Day Care.
Goals and Achievements
My goal is to help each child be on target with their overall development by focusing on health, leadership, safety, and environment.
I have achieved this through community engagement, where I have served on various community boards, such as Board President of Neighbors Building Brightmoor (NBB), and board member of Brightmoor Alliance Inc.
I also serve as President with the Bramell Block Club and Co-Chair with the Beaverland Block Club. I created and developed the Ms. Gwen’s Editable Playscape Garden, designed for children ages 2 and 12 years old, to play as they learn about planting gardens with healthy food and engage with mother-earth. That type of hands-on experience is so rewarding. Upon enrollment in my program, each child is screened using the Ages & Stages Questionnaire that is discussed with the family, so I can provide various resources with a high-quality learning experience.
